Domestic Abuse is the intentional use of verbal, emotional, psychological, financial and physical abusive tactics and behaviours used to maintain power and control over and manipulate a partner, ex-partner or family member.
Andrea* was worn down by her husband’s abusive behaviour over many years. It began with financial control, constant questioning, checking and criticism and escalated to threats and violence towards her and the children.
Andrea rang South West Surrey Domestic Abuse Outreach Service (SWSDA) for help and her journey to survival began.
